Julia Malischnig: Biography


Born 1976 in Villach, south of Austria, Julia Malischnig got initial guitar lessons with Barbara Dietrich at the music school Spittal. She studied with the renowned Prof. Konrad Ragossnig at the University of Music in Vienna, with Oscar Ghiglia at the Music Academy of Basel, Germany, as well as with Frank Bungarten, Pepe Romero, Alexander Swete, Aniello Desiderio, a. o.
For her graduation with distinction at the University of Music in Vienna 2002, she also got the
„Appraisal Award“ from the Austrian Department for Education, Science and Culture.
She has performed with world famous musicians such as the „Zagreb soloists“ and Dino Saluzzi and has captivated her audiences in concerts in Europe, Korea, South Africa, Cuba and Argentina, where she played a. o. at the Festival Internacional de Ushuaia.
Julia Malischnig has composed a number of original pieces and internationally performs a wide variety of music ranging from classical to Tango and Jazz. More and more she is developing her interest on working with other artists in all kinds of genres and on composing her own music.
Julia Malischnig is an award winner of numerous competitions and scholarships. She worldwide directs guitar-workshops and master classes and is head of the String Department of the upper Austrian Landesmusikschulwerk.
Julia Malischnig is the initiator and artistic director of the International Guitar Festival La Guitarra esencial in Millstatt, South of Austria.
